TEST REQUIREMENTS

(Children and Adults)

-PHASE 1-

DEFINITION:

Signifies danger, cautioning the student to exercise control and guarding the opponent to stay away.

PATTERN OR POOMSE:

SAM-IL (33 movements) denotes the historical date of the independence movement of Korea which began throughout the country on March 1, 1919. The 33 movements in the pattern stands for the 33 patriots who planned the movement.

KICKING TECHNIQUES:

  • Flying Hook Kick
  • 180 Jumping Hook/Roundhouse Kick

FOUR DIRECTIONAL KICK COMBINATIONS:

  • Circular Block – Inward Crescent kick/double side connected piercing kick – Double turning kick – W/shaped block

FOOT SPARRING:

Pre-Arranged Sparring (One Step Free Sparring):

  1. X: Right foot middle side kick

Y: Dodging to the side and inward forming X-stance high outward strike with knifehand

X: Shifting to L-stance back elbow thrust

Y: Double step around to other side, then left turning kick with ball of foot, followed by right      reverse turning kick

X: Jumping front snap kick, then reverse middle punch.

PUNCHES AND BLOCKS (STANCES):

  • Diagonal Stance Back Elbow Thrust
  • Sitting Stance Reverse Knife-Hand Middle Wedging Block
  • L-stance Reverse Knife-Hand High Guarding Block
  • Sweeping Kick

Theory:

Responsible for all previous theory and definitions. Must be able to articulate and demonstrate teaching, coaching, judging/refereeing and competition principles. Must know all stances and practical application of all attacking tools.

Definition:

Signifies danger, cautioning the student to exercise control and guarding the opponent to stay away.

Pattern or Poomse:

CHOI-YONG (46 movements) is named after Choi Yong, Premier and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces during the 14th century Koryo Dynasty. Choi Yong was greatly respected for his loyalty, patriotosm and humility. He was executed by his subordinate commanders under orders from one of his generals, General Yi Sung Gae who later became the first king of the Yi Dynasty.

  1. Low knifehand guarding block – Sweeping kick – Checking kick – Side thrusting kick – Twisting kick – Twin vertical punch

X: Ground X-knifehand checking block, then grab kicking foot and twisting take-down to the ground, then left downward pressing kick with ball of foot

Definition:

Pattern or Poomse:

YOO-SIN (68 movements) is named after General Kim Yoo Sin, a commanding General during the Silla Dynasty. The 68 movements refer to the last two figures of 668 A.D the year Korea was unified (Silla, Koguryo & Paekche kingdoms). The ready posture signifies a sword drawn on the right rater than the left side, symbolizing Yoo Sin’s mistake of following the king’s orders to fight with foreign forces against his own nation.
